PRIVACY POLICY

Your memories belong to you.

UPDATED SEPTEMBER 15, 2026 · PRE-RELEASE VERSION

This policy describes the current Sidequest iPhone app implementation and the free website preview. Sidequest does not operate user accounts, an advertising network, or an analytics service.

Inside the iPhone app

The app stores saved quest identifiers, an active quest, completion dates, personal notes, and a haptic preference in its local application storage. Curiosity XP and streaks are calculated from your completion history. This information is not sent to a Sidequest server.

Your device’s backup settings may include the app’s local data. Device backups are managed by your operating system and backup provider. There is no Sidequest account or cross-device synchronization.

Inside the website preview

The interactive preview stores saved quests, the active quest, completion dates, and notes in your browser’s local storage. This collection is separate from the iPhone app. Clearing this website’s browser data removes it. The preview uses no analytics cookies, advertising scripts, or remote font services.

The public website is hosted on Vercel. Requests to the hosting service necessarily include network information such as your IP address and the requested file. Vercel may process operational and security logs according to its privacy policy. Sidequest does not add advertising or behavioral analytics to these pages.

When you choose to share

A memory print contains the challenge title, your completion date, your note if you wrote one, and Sidequest branding. Sharing on iPhone uses the system share sheet. The website uses supported browser sharing or downloads an image. The destination you select handles that shared copy under its own policies. You can review the print before sharing.

Permissions and purchases

The app does not request access to your camera, photo library, contacts, or location. The planned iPhone release is a one-time paid download through Apple, with no subscription or in-app purchases. Apple handles App Store billing; Sidequest does not receive payment-card information.

Field notebooks and reports

Expedition drafts and completed reports include the expedition, your written observations, an optional place label you enter yourself, and dates. The iPhone app stores these locally. The browser preview uses separate local storage. We do not track your location or record microphone audio. Text and PDF exports include your place label, observations, and report date; they leave the app only when you choose to share them.

Return visits and comparison copies

A return visit saves a copy of the earlier visit’s four observations, place label, and date inside the new visit. This keeps comparisons readable if the original report is deleted. Deleting an original report does not erase copies stored in later return visits. Delete those later visits as well to remove their comparison copies. Comparison exports include observations from both visits. The observer’s passport is calculated locally from completed reports.

Retention and removal

Your local collection remains until the app’s data or the website’s browser storage is removed. Deleting the iPhone app can remove its local collection. Backup copies and shared prints are managed separately by you and the services holding those copies. There is no server-side Sidequest collection to delete.
